Frequently Asked Questions

Call us at 1-800-291-7985 to learn more

Q. Do I really need to submit a cover letter and the signed NIB HIPAA with every formal application?
A. It is in your best interest to submit both these items with every formal application. The cover letter assists your case manager by giving them important details on the case regarding agent, client, medical orders, and if the case was discussed before submission. Additionally, the signed HIPAA allows us to obtain access to otherwise confidential information as well as discuss the case informally with other carriers should we need to move the case to a different carrier. It saves you time by not having to go back to the client a second time for signatures if we need to shop the case to other carriers.

Q. Do I need to place my agent identification or the NIB GA number on my submitted application?
A. No, your NIB case manager will make sure all identifying information is placed on the application before submitting it to the carrier. However, you should make sure that the writing agent name is easily legible on the on the application as well as clearly mark any splits to make sure your commission is processed quickly and correctly when the case is marked in-force.

 Q. Where and how do I submit new business applications?

A. After logging onto our website: www.niblife.com. click on the Case Status button to the left to view your cases.

Q. An exam is required based on age and amount of coverage. Do I need to complete the Non-medical Part 2?
A. No; however, if provided than we can jump start the process of the attending physicians' statements if you provide the doctor’s contact information when the application is submitted. An exception would be if you are applying to one carrier, but the exam was completed for another carrier, then you will need to the Part 2 completed for the carrier being applied to.

Q. Where can I access carrier forms?
A. All forms are readily available at your fingertips on National Insurance Brokerage’s website at www.niblife.com under the forms button.

Q. Where can I access the Underwriting requirements by carrier?
A. Copies of each carrier’s Underwriting Requirements are located under the Underwriting Guidelines Button on National Insurance Brokerage’s website.

Q. What can I do to prepare my client for the upcoming insurance exam?
A. To ensure the best exam result:

  • Bring a list of all current medications including dosages, name, address, and phone number of the physician prescribing the medications.
  • Fast for at least 8 hours prior to the exam.
  • Avoid foods that are high in salt.
  • Avoid alcohol at least 8 hours before the exam.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 12 hours prior to the exam.
  • Avoid tobacco for at least one hour prior to the exam.

Q. My client has some health/hobby/travel concerns – How do I know what risk class to illustrate?
A. Contact your Brokerage Manager or submit an Impaired Risk Questionnaire under the Impaired Risk Solution Center section of National Insurance Brokerage’s website. Prelim Questionnaire application can be very helpful as a fact finder too! Your Brokerage Manager will work with our review team here and the various carrier underwriters to help guide you to the carrier that can best offer.

Licensing & Commissions

Q. How do I get started with licensing, where do I send it once it is complete, and are original forms needed?
A.  You request a licensing package from your Brokerage Manager for any carrier that cases are going to be written with. Completed licensing can be faxed to 407-455-7765 or email to L&A@niblife.com.. Original licensing forms are never needed.

Q. How long does it take to become licensed?
A. If all forms are in good order, most carriers can get appointments done within 5-7 days from the time it gets to their company.

Q Will I be notified once I get appointed with the carrier?
A. When an agent is appointed they are notified by a formal letter from NIB L&A department informing them of the contract completion as well as their agent number.

Q. How do I add another state appointment?
A. Most carriers only need you to submit the license of the state you are looking to add. There are exceptions to this rule, so it is the agent’s best bet to email their Brokerage Manager to review/.

Q. Why are some commissions paid at 50% instead of a higher rate?
A. Some companies, mostly NY companies, pay a base rate of 50% directly to the agent. NIB would then pay you the additional compensation up to the street level compensation noted on the compensation grid found in the licensing kit.

Q. What is the pay cycle for Commissions?
A. Pay cycles differ per carrier. Some are daily, others weekly, and a few are monthly. Agents can email their case manager and they will gladly tell you what pay cycles apply to you individually.

Q. Do companies advance commission payments prior to the pay cycle?
A. Some companies offer commission advances, which require banking information. Please contact your Brokerage Manager for assistance for those companies that offer advances, or for the advance itself.

Q. Do I get paid quicker if I’m on Direct Deposit?
A. In some cases, you can be paid weekly instead of bi-monthly or monthly if you opt for Direct Deposit. Generally, agents who are on direct deposit type programs, get their funds approximately 2-3 days sooner than those that are mailed.

Q. Who can I call for my commission inquiries?
A. Agents can contact our commissions department, via email, for any and all commission inquiries. Send your email to Commissions@niblife.com
or call  (407) 455-7708 or fax to 407-455-7768 or email to commissions@niblife.com
